India ETF

The India ETFs are exchange-traded funds that invest in stocks that are listed on various stock exchanges in India. India ETF aims to capture the major sectors of the Indian economy in possession of a diversified mix of large companies who represent the majority of the total market capitalization of the Indian economy.

In December 2001, India began its foray into the field of exchange traded funds. The first Indian ETFs launched in the country are ETF Nifty BeES and the Nifty Benchmark Exchange-traded Scheme.

The Indian ETFs are traded openly on stock exchanges. They are designed to track specific indices. The Indian ETFs are traded like other stocks; these funds can be bought or sold through brokers on a daily basis.

India has become a growing economy with skills in the areas of knowledge, such as information technology, Finance and Healthcare.

India focused funds have been hit hard in the recession time during 2008, but have rebounded significantly in 2009 - almost entirely from a recovery of 53% loss. The Indian stock market has bounced back more than most developed and emerging markets in 2009 and investors in the country and abroad have been funneling money into this emerging Indian market.

The following are few Indian ETFs:

India Earnings Fund (EPI) : WisdomTree's India Earnings Fund seeks investment results that generally correspond to the performance of the WisdomTree India Earnings Index.

India Portfolio ETF (PIN) : The PowerShares India Portfolio seeks to replicate the Indus India Index, which is designed to replicate the Indian equity markets as a whole, through a group of 50 Indian stocks selected from the largest companies listed on two major Indian exchanges.

MSCI India Index ETN (INP) : The iPath MSCI India Index ETNs are linked to the MSCI India Total Return Index. The Index is a free float-adjusted market capitalization index designed to measure the market performance, including price performance and income from dividend payments, of Indian equity securities. The Index is currently comprised of the top 68 companies by market capitalization listed on the National Stock Exchange of India (the "NSE").

WisdomTree Dreyfus Indian Rupee Fund (ICN) : WisdomTree's Dreyfus Indian Rupee Fund seeks to earn current income reflecting money market rates in India, as well as provide exposure to the movement of the Indian Rupee relative to the U.S. Dollar.
